Services Offered

Non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive talk therapy focused on helping you find your own answers. In-person counseling sessions are available in Nashville TN. Remote, secure, virtual, video counseling sessions are available to people who live anywhere in Tennessee

Couples therapy can help make your relationship better and can be part of maintaining a healthy relationship.

People see couples therapy when they want to improve or deepen their communication, when they are in continual conflict or not connecting, when there has been a trauma or betrayal in the relationship or they just want to work together on  goals.

EMDR and Brainspotting are powerful tools for processing trauma in a deeper and faster way than talking about it can achieve. They both utilize neuroscience and the bilateral stimulation of the brain to allow your inner healer to process and remove trauma from your body. They can decrease and remove trauma responses and free you up to be creative and happy rather than guarded and angry. Done in a safe therapeutic relationship along with talk therapy, they provide the spark needed to move your through the pain to a place of more ease and calm.

Walk and talk therapy at a local greenway is available depending on weather and schedule so if you would rather be moving while your session happens, I can accommodate you.  This can be helpful for people who are more comfortable while talking while moving in nature. People  who are autistic or who have ADHD sometimes find walk and talk therapy helpful too.

What is it like to work with me

LJ Ratliff, Clinical Social Work/Therapist, LCSW (she, her)
LJ Ratliff, Clinical Social Work/Therapist, LCSW (she, her)

I believe we are our own best healers and my work is geared toward assisting you in getting in touch with your inner healer, removing the blocks to your healing and thriving, and celebrating the authentic you meant to shine brightly in a world that often does its best to dim that light. No matter who you are or what you believe, you will find a non-judgmental space in my office. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years experience working with all sorts of people and issues and I have lived a life full of diversity and adventures with people from different cultures than mine. I am deeply connected to the natural world and find the intimate diversity of nature to be a missing element in the modern lives of many people. In nature every being makes sense and is appreciated simply for being who they are and this is how I manage my relationships with other humans, including my therapist-client relationships. I am a secular therapist who does not bring spirituality or religion into my work unless you bring it with you. I support and honor all faiths. I am an elder with a youthful attitude and mindset and I bring enthusiasm and fun to my interactions with others.

I am a proud member of the LGBTQIA community who has kept up with the times and is inclusive of all. I have a “Cool Lesbian Auntie” vibe and have worked with queer people on issues related to coming out, dealing with an unjust society, navigating queer relationships in the South, as well as the myriad of other problems being members of an oppressed population can bring. Marginalized people find safety and understanding in my work. I also work very well with liberal heterosexual couples, polyamorous couples, and couples living all sorts of alternative lifestyles.

I am a warm, interactive individual therapist and will hold safe space while guiding you in finding your own answers as you deepen your connection to Self. I have a sense of humor and know when to use it and when to just be present. I do sometimes give homework assignments and encourage journalling and creative endeavors alongside the healing work. I was trained originally in Systems theory and understand the inner workings of a human being as well as the interaction of humans in society. I will help you explore and heal from wounding from your family of origin or other life trauma while also acknowledging and healing from wounds that society has inflicted. I go one step further with experiential family constellations work and can work with you to heal generational trauma that has been passed down to you from your family system so that it does not get passed down to the ones who come after you.
